We’ve all heard about the dangers of blue light, which is continuously emitted from our screens and technological devices. 

We do absorb blue light from the sun as well. However, the blue light that the sun releases is meant to alert our brains:

let them know that it’s daytime and that they should keep us awake and energetic accordingly. Furthermore, most of us know how important it is to use sunglasses in the sun as well, to block UV light and blue light from overwhelming our nervous systems, hurting our eyes and affecting our health.

Because most of us spend a large amount of our days in front of a screen, we absorb copious amounts of blue light during the day and night time as well. Consequently, we could absorb an excessive quantity of blue light, which will result in a few uncomfortable ramifications, such as an interference with our sleeping patterns, soaring and dry eyes, strained neck and shoulders, headaches, and trouble falling asleep.  

When we don’t protect ourselves from the blue light technology exposes us to every day, we invite these symptoms to our lives. If we’d spend the same time in the sun, we could suffer from the same symptoms. 

Are Blue Light Glasses the Answer?

It’s important to highlight that by taking 15-minute breaks from screens every two hours and having some distance from the screen itself (usually a hand-to-shoulder long), we could reduce the strain that blue light casts on our eyes. However, it’s not a permanent solution, and if you suffer from any of the symptoms above, blue light glasses could really help better our way of life. 

Nowadays, arrays of blue light glasses, screen-protectors, and software are available at hand. The question is, are they any good?

Like most products, some companies offer quality blue light glasses, which really do filter blue light properly, while others provide low-quality blue light glasses, which simply don’t get the job done. It’s not always the price that affects the quality of the glasses. For example, safety eyewear (we could change it to the name of the company), which sells blue light glasses for about 40$ a pair, have been proven to filter most of the blue light we’re exposed to daily by a laboratory.

Subsequently, once you decide to purchase blue light glasses, it’s crucial to make sure that they actually filter blue light in reality.

The blue light blocking glasses test helps us realize whether our blue light glasses do help filter blue light from our eyes and, by doing so, will aid us to enjoy better sleep, protect our eyes, and reduce eye strain.
